On the changeability of the weather

I left for Oxford at lunchtime under a clear sky, and without anything waterproof. I should have remembered the weather forecast. The wind and rain are currently making enough noise to tear down Duke Humfrey's Library, where I now sit, waiting to defy the elements.

And it has just woken me from a sound nap.

It's all very well the weather wanting to be your alarm clock, but still... :)

Something similar just happened here in Bristol. I left in sunny weather to go to the bank 5 minutes away, then heard thunder while I was in the queue, followed by torrential rain just as I was leaving.

I am now damp.

The cloud cover here (or at least what I can see of it through the library window and through the blind) has turned white in the last few minutes, and broken to reveal clear sky. Whether the weather will stay like this for the rest of the afternoon, of course, I can't predict...

I used to regularly be caught in the rain on the way back to the office from libraries, and turn up at my desk soaking wet.
