The latest from the rumour mill

September 8th, 2008 (11:26 pm)

Increasingly authoritative word at the former Outpost Gallifrey forum suggests that the icon illustrating this post is itself a spoiler for one of the 2009 specials. :)

Perhaps some people's dreams can come true tomorrow after all...

EDIT</b> Unfortunately one of the other sound spoiler-sources is now insisting the return of the gentleman in the icon is "total rubbish" - but who is misinforming who?

McGann

The source got most of what he was told for last season right, but I'm always wary, remembering when the Buffy production team started to feed carefully worked-out alternate schemes for, I think, season five into fandom through trusted sources who didn't know they were now being misled.

No more information about the context, only that the scenes are supposedly going to be shot before DT returns to work on Who in January. As with everything, take with a large pinch of salt until it happens.

8th doctor - wanderer in the fourth dime

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Really?????

Well, now I'm going to be absurdly overexcited for the next year or so.

(and then it'll turn out not to be true, or they'll make it somehow terrible, and I'll cry. Oh, Who.)

McGann

The said gentleman's scenes are supposedly to be shot before Mr Tennant returns to work, in order to save time (the mid-January to end-April slot for making the four specials in isn't great). This is the only thing which makes me dubious about the enterprise.

Eight

This is my very favorite rumor! :) I've been scanning the message boards every few days to see if there was any new news on it. *loving what I've seen the last two days*

I do believe it will happen, but to see it officially announced... I think, I may squee myself to death.

The rumour has been around, literally, for years, and until very recently I've been very sceptical of it. It was an expression of hope rather than anything with any sources behind it until the last few months, and could be traced right back to the regrets many people had that Rose didn't start with a McGann/Eccleston regeneration.

This time, however, things seem a little different, and I'm tempted to give in to my credulity and believe. It would be good to see Paul McGann on screen as the Doctor again, in a distinct way from all the other ex-Doctors, just because he only appeared in the TV Movie and has since then been confined to the apocrypha of books and CDs (good though those are).

The problem is now that two people close to people working in the Cardiff production office are at loggerheads over whether the story is authentic or not. We are still a few months away from production, which means that plans are fluid anyway. I'd like to believe that the return of the eighth Doctor to television, even if only for a few minutes, is happening, and couldn't resist spreading the word here; but I might have been irresponsible in doing so, if the rumour proves unfounded after all.
