Round-up from Twitter

October 21st, 2008 (10:05 pm)

  • 22:45 About to read an essay. #
  • 22:58 @tree_and_leaf You know, I wonder whether there were any police boxes in Oxford, and of what type. #
  • 23:11 There used to be a very detailed website with examples of police boxes from around the UK, but I couldn't find it just now. #
  • 23:44 @tree_and_leaf Can't find where City of Oxford Police's records are (if anywhere public) so no joy on police box front. #
  • 23:46 Time to read Common Sense again. #
  • 10:38 The sky has that clarity today which is full of possibility. A certain blue which one normally finds in early morning is lingering today... #
  • 10:38 ...perhaps it's a sign of winter approaching and daylight hours shortening. #
  • 10:54 ...but I should be reading Common Sense. 'Offering hints, not plans', indeed. We can see through that one, Tom. #
  • 13:37 Petrol at Yarnton Texaco now 99.9p - BP Wolvercote remains above £1. #
  • 15:15 Up to the pear tree to change bags, then to Bodleian. #
  • 15:17 Rad inf, a mess of broken brick. #
  • 16:24 No books on being agnostic in Blackwells. #
  • 17:42 @pellegrina Nation shall speak peace unto nation - by making so little sense they quietly ignore each other. #
  • 19:08 Forgetting which year it is - my first guess was that it was 1711. #
  • 21:01 Contemplating that I shouldn't be unkind to Swift, as there are many instances of him being generous to the destitute and unfortunate. #

I'm sure there were some, but I have no idea on the details.

The National Register of Archives is a good place to go: http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/nra/default.asp

It reveals some records are at Oxfordshire Record Office, others seem to be available via ORO (I am guessing that these are still with the police, but accessible via FOI enquiries).

I'd had a look on A2A, but hadn't done an institutional search via the NRA (it was late...). Thanks.
