Underground News postscript

December 13th, 2008 (01:21 pm)

I promised photos of the current state of the platform indicators, but have been unable to transfer them from my phone. It turns out that the 'old' indicators were first introduced in 1908! Here they are in a picture from 1955 which I found via District Dave's London Underground Forum.

Oh god, I remember those. They were a bit antiquated even in 1955 (That could almost have been me in the picture, but I was rather younger than that then!)

Pleasing that the new indicators are similar enough to the old ones to keep the look of the station, and advanced enough to be of some actual use to commuters. I spent a decade watching those old ones. Purely of decorative value.
