The Eleventh Doctor

January 2nd, 2009 (05:00 pm)

We'll find out tomorrow at 5.35pm on BBC 1, a little earlier than I'd come to expect over the last week. So will it be Paterson? Or Chiwetel? Or Sam or Sean or someone the rumour mill has missed?

Probably someone to whom most people will go "...who?"

hard gay doctor who

Well, really, it'll be someone to whom everyone will go "Who". By definition. Innit.

Or so we hope, anyway...

Last thing Who fandom needs is sedevacantists.

(mercury vapor in the smoke from the TARDIS console -- no new Doctor has been chosen. White smoke, no mercury -- habemus Medicam!)

Fandom has enough AU Doctors at the end of home movie cameras without a non-announcement tomorrow encouraging more of them...

Although this had been speculated on for a week or so, I didn't really believe that they'd choose to make the announcement in such an strange forum - interesting though! Anyway, confirmation kind of gives credence to someone who reported a casual conversation with (of all people) Peter Davison, who said it would be announced on DWC and it would be 'someone you'd never heard of'. Hmm.

Can't get onto OG due to their non-patron lock-out policy, bah.

Davison Clock

Peter Davison seems to be well in with the current administration, so he may well be a reliable source...

OG full of nonsense as ever; but Lizo Mzimba broke the news of the DWC announcement there at 4.01pm.

I'm not just hoping that it's someone I've never heard of, but also that they've spent the last three months working as a hod carrier on a building site.

Hmm... Colin Paterson on the Today programme has just 'mentioned' this chap, who may well have been filling in the time since Party Animals and the Sally Lockhart Mysteries doing just that.

I'd be surprised if it is Matt Smith, though the name has cropped up online in the last few days. That's also because I'm not ready for the actor playing the Doctor to be twelve years younger than me...

He was on stage at the Ruby in the Smoke screening that we went to, along with J J Feild, who would be a cracking candidate himself.

OK, it is Matt Smith, and I think he is going to be good.

... and I bet this DWC has the HIGHEST RATINGS EVER.

I expect so... the BBC are said to be using the announcement to make people forget to watch the football on ITV.

If next week has taught you not to expect us to find out tomorrow, then:

a) presumably there's going to be some disappointment going around and
b) can I borrow your time machine, please, Doctor?

I'm still holding out unrealistic hope for Alan Rickman.

I wish someone had had the insight to offer him the role in the 1980s...

Dammit, I want to wait and be surprised when David Tennant finally manages to regenerate into someone who isn't David Tennant. Down with this sensationalist headline grabbing. Grr and Bah!
