This seemed to be worth sharing (though I imagine that there are other similar examples)...

I'm sure that Cartmel would have distanced himself from the Christian God analogy; his era seemed more interested in pantheons, whereas under Davies the Doctor has become the focus of his own monotheistic faith, having taken on the mantel of the Lonely God, and for those of us who have seen every episode it's very repetitive. RTD has indicated he writes on the basis that only a small percentage watch every episode, thus the repetition of the same themes...

I'm more positive about Matt Smith than you, I think; he acquitted himself well in the interview, despite the embarrassing stare at the camera at the end of that instalment of Confidential. I can envisage so young an actor carrying the lead, though the test is still over a year away.

I found him markedly different from Tennant, actually - far less controlled, and more expressive. Whether he will behave like that as the Doctor is another matter.

I do share some of your apprehensions, though, that there are people in the BBC who think they've found the 'right' way for the Doctor to be... but there are different constituencies to play to, and I think that the production team are conscious of that.

Both, actually.
