UK election blogging...

May 7th, 2010 (12:50 am)

Shock result in Northern Ireland - Peter Robinson is out!

01:07 Looking like an overall majority now for the Conservatives...

01:41 Still looking just like a Conservative majority. My father thinks a two-figure one, I think a one-figure one. Conservatives still not calling it, as Andrew Marr says.

01:45 Interesting to see the swing in Tooting, which Labour have held.

02.23 Two Conservative gains - not altogether surprised to see Lembit Opik out, but the size of the swing was huge.

Still open - surprising failures for the Conservatives, we must remember.

02.25 There go the Midlands - but Labour hold Stockton North.

02.28 Basildon South - victory for Conservatives, but no Bolton North East. Still patchy for the Tories.

Looks as if Gisela Stuart might have held on for Labour at Edgbaston - a big blow for the Conservatives. Swings and roundabouts - they've lost Eastbourne but gained Harrogate and Knaresborough (difficult for the LibDems to defend with boundary changes, though Lewis Baston of the Guardian has Tweeted that the LibDem would have been an excellent MP - and given Lewis is very Labour that's a great compliment).

03.06: Twenty Conservative gains now. Still very slow for them.

03.27: Sad that StG hasn't taken Oxford East. No vacancy in the senior membership of the Oxford DocSoc, then. Worried about Evan Harris now.

03.44: What a number of holds there are... Labour holding Aberdeen South, Rochdale...

04.41: Soon to bed, and Radio 4 instead of BBC 1. Thought Jacqui Smith gracious in defeat. Still reeling from Evan Harris losing - I really thought he'd hold on.

Very disappointed that the Liberal Democrats have not taken Durham City.

Surprising, in such a student city.

I think the idea of an anti-Tory alliance might have helped Labour there, yes.

I'm glad that if Harris had to lose he did it by more than one... But come PR, and he'll be back.
