Sherlock: Lessons for Life

January 12th, 2014 (10:17 pm)

We are not always the people we think we are. The man who thinks he longs for the suburbs and regularity and structure instead longs for danger. The high-functioning sociopath is a man who has friends, loves them and can cope with that.

One of the writers (Moffat I think) pointed out that Sherlock is not really a sociopath but would like to be one, as it would make life easier (emotional attachment just gets in the way...). I must say, that is how B. Cumberbatch's performance comes across to me, too.
(I saw this in an article in the ES on Friday, which neatly lasted from St. Pancras to Paddington and will need discussing off-line at some point).

I have that ES, but haven't read it yet - and that's a good point about not-quite-self-deception on Sherlock's part.
