The scouring of the study

November 5th, 2007 (02:14 am)

Well, not quite; but the various priestesses of throwing-things-out will be interested to know no doubt that about forty-five minutes ago I decided that I couldn't go to sleep while there was work to be done; and I've been clearing a lot of the rubbish that was on my study floor. Sorting out the desk itself might take a little longer; and some of all my bookshelves could do with thinning down, or at least gestures in that direction (though there is probably only one book in twenty which I could say I wouldn't miss).

Edit: Previously entitled 'The cleansing of the study', but retitled at the suggestion of brightlywoven.

The priestesses may rejoice at the ceremonial throwing-out-of-things, but I guarantee that their powers are limited when it comes to trying to get things back later, when you realise you want/need them.

Throwing things away/donating to charity/selling to friends at a bargain basement price (as with all my LARP kit, sniff sniff) always seems like a good idea at the time...and then you have apparent eons in which to contemplate the folly of the action.

I vote for clutter. At least that way you know you've got everything. Somewhere.

There's nothing that's been thrown away that wasn't a printout of something that is on my PC or simply out-of-date. Things I might conceivably need remain in the vast majority...

I think the use of domestic flame-throwers should be re-introduced as they are the only know method for getting through to certain layers of the floor once the build up has reached a critical level. Also, you can hire a pneumatic hack hammer to help get through to the semi-mythical carpet layer

I'm not quite in need of a flame-thrower yet...

Naturally I support this action in its (no doubt modest) entirety, but suspect that its carrying out at 2am on a Monday morning is a sign of a lost soul.

You are of course the high priestess of the order.

surely this should be the scouring of the study?!
I'm firmly in the flamethrower brigade (or better still, the charity shop). Far far better to maybe regret the usefulness of an object than to drown in a morass of *stuff*. Congratulations!

The scouring of the study... you're right. I attribute this to my not being properly awake!
