Round-up from Twitter

October 20th, 2008 (10:04 pm)

  • 22:52 @tree_and_leaf I always liked that one when it slipped into school assemblies. #
  • 23:06 @tree_and_leaf Not an observation I've made, so I can't answer it... #
  • 23:27 @tree_and_leaf I went to lectures by someone from Campion Hall, long ago when reading for my BA... otherwise have no knowledge of Jesuits, #
  • 23:28 ...drinking with them or otherwise (though I think a Zoroastrian friend was educated by them). #
  • 10:29 @tree_and_leaf I can genuinely say I wished that too last year, when I was editing parts of the RAE... #
  • 11:05 @tree_and_leaf I noticed that too... #
  • 15:08 Tax returning in front of ITV4 and an episode of The Saint - 'Where the Money Is' - by Terry Nation! Directed by Roger Moore!! #
  • 15:55 Looking for an envelope and doing some photocopying. #
  • 16:43 The Pharos Institute! SJA likes dropping these references to Who (of any vintage) into scripts; but then, Gary Russell is its script editor. #
  • 16:48 I'd forgotten that Pharos was the name of Floella Benjamin's institute in last year's SJA... #
  • 17:24 SJA: Sarah's insistence on being addressed as "Sarah Jane" sits oddly with those of us who knew her in the 1970s. #

Do these things happen on their own, or are you genuinely committed to logging your twittering?

Times have changed. I would find it hard to imagine any teenager referring to an adult by anything other than their first name these days. Unless they were speaking to a teacher of course.

If this is about Sarah Jane Smith, the Doctor and Harry and other characters generally referred to her as 'Sarah' in 1970s Doctor Who, whereas now she insists on 'Sarah Jane'. Perhaps this is the TV Comic version of Sarah, and not the original television one at all. It can probably be blamed upon the Time War.
