Farewell David!

October 29th, 2008 (10:53 pm)

Typical! I'm out of internet contact for a few hours, and this happens.

"WHO will he be next?" as the Brigadier said on the blurb of Doctor Who and the Planet of the Spiders...

My son's been saying this for ages- he's been getting the info from his eight year old friend. I thought he might do the next full series, but I'm not entirely surprised he's going.

Same here, really - perhaps a David Tennant working with Steven Moffat and Piers Wenger for a year would have been a ghost at the feast (and going back, Tom Baker was never entirely happy working with Graham Williams, having worked out his Doctor with Philip Hinchcliffe...)

Really? I'd never heard that before, although I knew they clashed over Tom's ad libs, which made me assume seasons 15 to 17 saw Tom closer to how he wanted to play the role.

Graham Williams largely shut Tom Baker out from discussions about the character and the programme's direction, afaik; Philip Hinchcliffe's methods were more inclusive, involving the lead actor in discussions about the content of the season early on, for example, but like many other things (such as his early appointments of designers) this went against standard BBC practice.
