Another farewell...

January 19th, 2009 (11:04 pm)

A few years ago I saw Kathleen Byron interviewed on stage before a BFI screening of Black Narcissus. She seemed to have come to terms with the failure of her career to turn her into a major star, typecast as a series of unstable anti-heroines in the wake of her portrayal of Sister Ruth in the film which most brought her to the attention of cinemagoers, and was happy to have kept working as one of the solid but flexible core of British television from the 1960s to the 2000s.

Well said - it was really only when I saw her there at the BFI that I realised I'd seen her in Blake's 7 and lots of other series.

I only realized that recently too. Thanks for posting the link to the obit.

There is another appreciative obit in The Independent.
