Election meme

April 12th, 2005 (09:07 pm)

Borrowed from huggyrei

Who Should You Vote For?

Who should I vote for?

Your expected outcome:

Liberal Democrat

Your actual outcome:

Labour -38
Conservative -21
Liberal Democrat 40
UK Independence Party 7
Green 21

You should vote: Liberal Democrat

The LibDems take a strong stand against tax cuts and a strong one in favour of public services: they would make long-term residential care for the elderly free across the UK, and scrap university tuition fees. They are in favour of a ban on smoking in public places, but would relax laws on cannabis. They propose to change vehicle taxation to be based on usage rather than ownership.

Take the test at Who Should You Vote For

Predictable I suppose, but fun to see what the compilers thought were the weathercock issues.

EDIT: Apparently the questions are skewed to encourage right-wingers to vote LibDem! Hi-diddley-de, a Tory's life for me...

last i heard they weren't intended to be skewed, although they might have suffered from "amateur surveyor doesn't realise how much their own bias is coming through". although it's far from clear that the authors are actually LibDems.

if you have evidence that this really is deliberately skewed, i'd be interested to hear/see it. after all, i might soon be one of oxford's most high profile libdem activists (thanks to people volunteering me for stuff i wasn't sure i could deliver) and i'm really all about "freedom, fairness, trust".

I wasn't intending to suggest that the meme was written by LibDems - rather, bysomeone who thinks it's fun to tell people who support conservative policies that they are actually LibDem voters, and enjoy the outrage.

As for bias check out this post http://www.livejournal.com/users/atreic/141730.html which lists the creator as one hatmadu. Although I agree the selected questions (and lack of context on other points leads to a LD bias.

Interesting - the creator acknowledges that there might be a LibDem bias, though it looks as if Meirion's "amateur surveyor doesn't realise how much their own bias is coming through" is highly likely.

I'm inclined to agree with you that there may be bias - I've never voted Lib Dem, but that's the result I got.
