Round-up from Twitter

March 19th, 2009 (10:15 pm)

  • 09:11 Sitting at the front of a Metro train - I enjoy the drivers POV. #
  • 09:13 Though I never actually wanted to be a train driver! #
  • 09:15 Passing the ruin of the Rowntree factory at Fawdon. #
  • 09:17 Though the distance between stations is short and I finished the tweet at Wansbeck Road. #
  • 09:21 Joining the old North Tyneside loop now at S.Gosforth. For coast, change to plfm 2. #
  • 09:23 Next station Jesmond - start of tunnel. #
  • 09:41 On Durham train - remember to stay awake or could end up in Plymouth. #
  • 09:45 Previous train running late at next platform, but we leave first. #
  • 09:47 Not so much fog on the Tyne, as the slightest mist. #
  • 13:17 Cheese savouries served in the cathedral - definitely the North-East. #
  • 21:01 @gayalondiel_99 It is a slow train, but better than paying £14 to park at Newcastle Central station. More here: tinyurl.com/dy9src #

big city

Did you see any of the construction they're apparently doing to Haymarket station? Sounds like a massive renovation.

Yes! I've been going through Haymarket twice a day for four days now - the underground decor is completely different, with much brighter, larger tiling, with bands of orange and green. The new train arrival indicator is a flat screen rather than a dot matrix lighting board. I used the station over Christmas - the newsagent is still trading in the middle of a building site, with the piles supporting the new office/retail/leisure development being built overhead. Google's street view of Haymarket shows the structure as it was at some point late last year.

I thought all little boys want to be a train driver at some point?

I was fascinated by the train in The Magic Roundabout at one point, but that's about as far as it went.
