Spoilerless Ashes

May 21st, 2010 (10:10 pm)

An extremely accomplished ending to Ashes to Ashes, which also impressed my family who hadn't seen an episode. Predictable in the sense that most of the elements had crossed my mind during this series, but there were lots of others too which turned out not to make themselves manifest. We've come a long way from a 1973 rooftop, and further than the authors at first intended, but we and they have been the better for it.

I was very impressed with the way they managed to handle it and the closure of so many elements. Though I'm certain that it is an ending very different to the one they would have expected when they wrote Life on Mars, it is no less fit or proper.

Gene Hunt as Virgil, helping guide the souls out of their own little hells. And Daniel Mays I think will be cropping up on our screens in various barking mad roles for years to come.

Gene Hunt as Virgil

I'd not thought of that (Dante being one of those authors with whom I'm less familiar than perhaps I ought to be), but that is what Gene has made himself into, or been made into.
