Celestial Toyroom: an eBay gallery

January 31st, 2012 (08:52 pm)

A magazine shop on eBay has most of the run (still ongoing) of the Doctor Who Appreciation Society's newsletter, later magazine, Celestial Toyroom for sale. Many issues placed on eBay go unsold, so with most priced at £6 - with the first, from 1976, priced at £29.99, and some other early ones in the run at £19.99 - I don't expect these to be disappearing any time soon. The front pages/front covers can be seen starting here. They are not in date order, but still give a window onto the changing priorities of the society and the sections of mainly British fandom it has targeted.

Doctor Who fanzines

First off, FANTASTIC blog!

We don't know each other, but I'm a research assistant for a Professor doing their Phd thesis. We are both HUGE Doctor Who fans, and part of the paper deals with fan fiction. We are specifically looking for fan fiction from the Who fandom heyday of the late 70's, 80's and early 90's. We know that fanzines are the source for most of this fiction, however fanzines from that era are incredibly elusive. I've tried to find copies for sale on ebay and various other forums.

I'm hoping you'll be able to point me in the direction of issues either for purchase, or that some awesome research companion would be willing to scan or copy for us. The use of this material is purely academic, and both writer, magazine, and research companion would be credited in the paper.

Please reply if you, or someone you know, would be able to help.
